Before trying out any remedies or new treatment on your skin to remove blackheads, it’s necessary to understand what they actually are. Blackheads are nothing but the small dark color bumps that often appear on the face & neck. They are also known as open comedones, which is the fancy medical term for pimples. These mild acne lesions usually form when the opening of hair follicles become clogged with dead skin cells and dried sebum (oil). When these clogged pores are exposed to air, it further oxidizes and assumes a brown or black color.
Blackheads can be super freaking annoying and getting rid of them isn’t easy. They most frequently occur on the nose, cheeks, chin area, and forehead. Also, these can appear on other parts of the body such as the neck, upper arms, shoulders, chest, and back. If you’re struggling with blackheads, here I have listed a few home remedies that will work like magic on your skin and may help decrease those clogged pores and reduce your blackhead appearance. Try these home remedies and say goodbye to blackheads.
1. Baking Soda and water
Baking soda acts as a physical exfoliator that removes dirt, oil, and dead skin cells leaving your skin soft and smooth. This natural cleanser cleans out the pores and reduces the appearance of those nasty, pesky blackheads. Baking soda helps neutralize your skin’s pH imbalance, which reduces your sebum production.
How to apply: Mix 1 teaspoon of baking soda and 1 teaspoon of water together to form a paste. Apply the paste to the affected area and gently rub it for a few minutes to remove all the visible blackheads. Then rinse it off with lukewarm water and pat your face dry with a clean towel. This paste could dry out your skin, so make sure to moisturize afterward.
2. Lemon, Honey and Sugar Scrub
lemon, honey, and sugar are a winning combination to get clear skin and rid of blackheads. Lemon juice acts as a natural astringent that slows down the sebum production in the skin pores and prevents the formation of blackheads. On the other hand, sugar acts as a natural exfoliator, that cuts down the dead skin cells and makes your skin completely smooth. The antibacterial and antioxidant properties of honey keep the bacterial action that causes blackheads at bay.
How to apply: Take a few drops of lemon juice and a few drops of honey in a bowl and mix it well. Then add granulated white or brown sugar (based on your preference) to make a scrub. Apply it all over your face and massage it in a circular motion for a few minutes to remove blackheads. Then rinse it off with lukewarm water and pat your face dry with a clean towel.
3. Coconut Oil and Sea Salt Scrub
Coconut oil is an effective remedy to cure blackheads and clear up the complexion of your skin. The antimicrobial properties of coconut oil discourage the growth of bacteria responsible for blackheads and make your skin super soft and smooth. Including this, coconut oil soothes and hydrates your skin. Sea salt deep cleanses your skin pores while regulating oil production.
How to apply: Take 2 teaspoon of salt and add 1 teaspoon coconut oil to it. Mix together and then apply to your face. Scrub in circular motions for a few minutes and wash it off with cold water.
4. Cinnamon and Honey
The cinnamon and honey face mask act as a natural exfoliating mixture to fight blackheads. Both cinnamon and honey have antimicrobial properties that help remove blackheads by eliminating bacteria or impurities that clog pores. The antioxidant property of cinnamon removes dirt formed by sebum and dead skin cells. Honey has natural antioxidants and antiseptic properties which hydrate the skin pores and help in the removal of blackheads. The mixture of organic honey and cinnamon will smoothen your skin and make your skin more glowing.
How to apply: Take 1 teaspoon of cinnamon powder and 2 teaspoons of raw honey in a bowl and mix it well. Apply this mixture on your face using your hand or brush and leave it for 10-15 minutes. Then wash it off with lukewarm water and pat dry your face with a soft towel. Apply this pack 3 times a week for best results.
5. Egg White Mask – Home Facial Mask
Egg whites are rich in vitamin, albumin, and protein that can help reduce your blackheads and reduce the discoloration of the skin to an immense level. The egg has a natural astringent property that helps tighten your skin pores and remove excess oil from your skin – which is essential for banishing blackheads. This mask makes your skin soft and boosts your skin’s elasticity.
How to apply: Crack an egg and separate the yolk from the egg white. Then stir the egg white in a bowl and paint it over your face with a brush. Next, cover the egg white applied areas with tissue paper and dab another layer of egg white on top of the tissue paper. Let it dry for 30 minutes and then peel it off gently in the upward direction.
